1) What was surprising or interesting in the video?

It was interesting to see the emphasis on cultural differences through extraterrestrial foods in the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The process of Commander Ritzel experiencing cultural differences while attempting to eat frightening Klion traditional food for the Klion ship is depicted, in which we can see how exchanges with alien civilizations are handled in science fiction works. It was also surprising that the negative science fiction works feature mixed-race human-alien characters, but this is practically impossible in science. For example, characters such as Spoke's Jangseong can enrich the story, but can be evaluated as scientifically unfounded. It was also the first time to learn that human viruses and diseases are not easily transmitted to extraterrestrials or even human-type aliens. Scenarios of infecting alien viruses that are common in science fiction have been found to be unlikely in reality.

2) What is the main topic of the video, and what do you think about it?

The video talks about the science fiction imagination and realistic possibilities of alien food and beverages, the potential for alien-to-human disease transmission, and mating. I thought the speaker, who came up with these topics while watching the video, was too creative. I thought that food and beverages can act as important cultural elements in interactions with alien civilizations. For example, the scene in Star Trek: The Next Generation, in which Klingon tries food and beverages, acts as an interesting element to explore cultural differences, and such cultural exploration will play an important role in understanding exchanges with alien civilizations. Also, although it is unlikely, if alien-to-human mating becomes possible, I think it will be important to keep a close eye on and prepare for new life forms or mutations.

3) How does the topic of this video tie to what we have been discussing in class?“

If a new species is born due to cross-breeding between different societies, the racism we learned in class could occur in a new form. To prevent this, we can find examples we learned in class and make preparations.
