1) What was surprising or interesting in the video?
What's most surprising about the video is the fact that it's routine and normal to communicate with yourself. It has long been known in psychological research that many people are experiencing conversations with themselves internally or aloud, but the video, which clearly addresses this, is interesting in that it goes beyond just a phenomenon and plays an important role in the development of childhood. In particular, Lev Vygotsky's hypothesis that self-talk is an essential practice for children to independently manage their behavior and emotions through dialogue with adults was highly innovative, raising understanding of the process by which it later turns into an internal conversation.
2) What is the main topic of the video, and what do you think about it
The main theme of the video is "Self-conversation and its impact." Self-conversation reflects our internal world and plays an important role in processing the emotions, behaviors, and diverse situations we experience in our lives. In the video, starting with the definition of self-conversation, it explains how external self-conversation in childhood develops into an internal one, and highlights its positive impact on an individual's thinking, emotion regulation, and action plan in the process. In particular, it introduces examples where positive and instructive self-conversation can help increase concentration, promote self-esteem, and solve everyday tasks.
3) How does the topic of this video tie to what we have been discussing in class?"
The theme of the video is closely related to the sociological theories we learned in class. Sociology is interested in understanding the interactions between individual internal dialogue and self-formation. For example, Lev Vygotsky's hypothesis argues that children use language to internalize the outside world, thereby developing the skills and self-identification needed in social interactions. From this perspective, sociological theories can provide important insights in understanding the effects of self-talk on individual emotional regulation and social interactions. In addition, by exploring the effects of self-talk on individual self-formation and social adaptation, it can also be an important sociological tool for understanding the developmental process of childhood.
