[EXTRA CREDIT] 'Death Worlds' Kim Da Young

1) What did you find surprising or interesting about the video? 

Even plants fight with each other. Most trees strive to gain more light by growing taller, spreading their canopies around and stealing light from their neighbors.

Plants are not immune to fighting each other, even if we avoid killing them. When you brush your teeth after every meal, you kill billions of organisms.

Those that survive today are the descendants of organisms that succeeded in reproducing before they died, a rare occurrence in nature. Our ancestry is descended from people who became increasingly adept at reproducing themselves. Everything around us is becoming more adept at killing us.

If you teleport a few thousand people to the age of the dinosaurs, a few thousand years later there would be very few creatures that would pose a serious threat to them and their dinoburger food culture. This planet has a history of over 4 billion years, and for most of that time it was either devoid of life or populated by organisms too simple to be classified as plants or animals. And the last billion years have seen the rapid development of organisms that are highly efficient at surviving or killing.

2) What is the main topic of the video? What do you think about it? 

'Death Worlds', which tells the story of a death planet in science fiction, focuses on the purpose of survival as one lives on a fictional planet.

The planet discussed in this video was not designed to be lived on, but rather to be killed.

The Death Planet is a planet designed to kill humans from the moment they take a breath.

Stories of survival in such dangerous environments are common in science fiction, and make us think about evolution between life and death.

It also expands the imagination of the interaction between technology and ecosystems, human progress, and technological advancement, and tells a realistic story about life and a threatening environment on a fictional planet.

3) How does the topic of this video connect to what we discussed in class?”

If our universe has existed for nearly 14 billion years, life may have arisen or evolved faster on other planets than ours.

We can imagine what life on our planet would be like if we had chosen an evolutionary path other than high intelligence.

Compared to most species of creatures, lions and wolves can be said to be kind, and compared to most species of creatures on Earth, they are kind.

We take it for granted that we are the result of evolution, but because we do not know the conditions on other planets, biologists do not assume that brains or group behavior are essential.

The evolution of high intelligence begins with social organisms and allows for long periods of time and vulnerable maturation.
