 1) Surprisingly, the average age in South Korea was 18 in 1950, but by 2023, that number has risen to 45 and is expected to reach 59 by 2100. What is particularly interesting is that China has been implementing strict family planning policies for the past few decades, which has reduced the number of young people in four generations from 100 to 20. The fact that China currently has the lowest birth rate in East Asia, even lower than Japan, is also quite shocking.


2) The video "Why Korea is Dying" discusses South Korea's population decline and the social and economic problems it has caused. In my opinion, to deal with the low birth rate, the government should do more to encourage women to have children. For example, improve child care benefits, support women who have had to take maternity leave because of pregnancy and childbirth, and help them avoid career disruption when they return to work. In addition, it is also very important to increase the length of the husband's parental leave in order to reduce the burden of childcare on women.


3) The topic of this video has a lot to do with the demography we're talking about in class, which is the topic of our lesson on June 10. This also involves economics, as demographic changes can have a profound impact on a country's economy. Understanding these dynamics helps us better understand the social and economic challenges ahead.
