1) Summary

The social understanding of gender is largely based on dichotomous gender classification. This dichotomous thinking is usually simply divided into men and women, and is said to be dependent on the X and Y chromosomes. However, the biological gender of humans is much more complex than this, and in reality, various biological variants exist, such as intersex. This complexity creates a conflict between scientific understanding and social expectations, challenging understanding of how the concept of gender is shaped and evaluated. Socially, sex and gender define individual behavior and role expectations, which have an important influence on the formation of self-identity. By being induced to learn and adopt gender-appropriate behavior from childhood, individuals build their gender status. These social expectations and identity formation play an important role in recognizing which gender category an individual belongs to. Also, the process by which individuals change or redefine gender, such as gender transformation, has been recorded in a long history and various cultures. However, gender transformation is still a central topic of medical and social debate today. This shows that gender and gender continue to be reevaluated through scientific research and ideological debates. Therefore, understanding gender is a complex topic that must be approached from a social and cultural perspective in addition to biological understanding. This is acting as an important factor in building an environment free of social inclusion and discrimination.
