1-SUMMARY)
Dramaturgy is a sociological perspective that analyzes micro-sociological explanations of social interactions through the analogy of performance and theatrical dramaturgy, dividing these interactions into various stages. This term was first used by Erving Goffman. Presenting oneself to others is referred to as dramaturgy. Goffman identified seven key elements related to performance:
Belief in the Role One Plays: It is important for the performer to genuinely believe in their role. The audience can only guess whether the performer is sincere.
Front (or "Mask"): Performers use various masks to control how the audience perceives them. This is a standardized and generalizable technique, as people use multiple masks throughout their lives.
Dramatic Realization: Performers emphasize aspects they want the audience to know. This involves dramatically expressing certain parts to leave a good first impression.
Idealization: Performers idealize the situation to avoid confusion and present an ideal image that the audience expects. The audience has an 'idea' of how a given situation (performance) should be, and performers strive to align their performance with that idea.
Maintenance of Expressive Control: Performers need to send the right signals and suppress any impulses that might convey misleading signals, maintaining their character.
Misrepresentation: Performers need to avoid conveying incorrect messages, as the audience tends to perceive the performance as either genuine or false. Performers generally want to avoid the audience thinking they are not genuine.
Mystification: Performers conceal certain information from the audience to increase their interest or to avoid revealing information that could harm the performer.
The areas of the stage are divided into three parts: front stage, back stage, and off-stage.
2-INTERESTING)
I found it interesting that internal secrets are shared to enhance team cohesion.
This is a crucial element in strengthening the bonds within the team. 3-QUESTION)
The text mentions that the treatment of absentees affects team cohesion.
In reality, how might discussions about absentees have positive or negative impacts on the team?
Discussions about absentees can positively impact the team by fostering accountability and encouraging better communication regarding attendance issues. However, if handled poorly, such discussions might create resentment or tension among team members, potentially undermining trust and cohesion within the team. Therefore, it's essential for leaders to approach these discussions constructively, emphasizing problem-solving and support rather than blame.
