1. Summary
Social stratification refers to the phenomenon where society divides its members into different tiers and distributes power, wealth, status, and resources accordingly. This is an important aspect of social structure, representing systematic inequalities where individuals or groups have different opportunities and resources based on their social status.
Social stratification greatly impacts individuals' lives and also affects social mobility. Social mobility refers to the ability of individuals or groups to change their existing social status. High social mobility indicates a more flexible society where opportunities are distributed more equitably, while low social mobility tends to entrench gaps between classes and exacerbate inequality. Social stratification remains a significant topic of discussion in modern society, with various policies and systems being reviewed and implemented to address and reduce inequality.

Social networks, including family background, connections, and marriage, also influence an individual's social status. These factors interact to determine an individual's position and opportunities within society, significantly impacting their life. Economic wealth, educational attainment, cultural capital, and social networks collectively contribute to the formation and perpetuation of social inequality and discrimination.
