 1. Summary

Social networks are social structures that study social interactions between individuals or organizations. Through theories and methods, we analyze patterns, influential entities, and network dynamics within networks. Social network analysis spans various academic fields such as social psychology, sociology, statistics, and graph theory. Early research was done by Georg Zimmel and Jacob Moreno, and along with the mathematical formulation in the 1950s, it became widely distributed in the social science in the 1980s. Social network analysis has become one of the main paradigms of modern sociology, and has also influenced other social and network sciences. Social network theory understands social phenomena through the properties of relationships and developed on the theoretical basis of Emile Durkheim and Ferdinand Tunis. In the 20th century, the work of Georg Zimmel and Jacob Moreno contributed to investigating the characteristics and interactions of networks. In the 1970s, Harrison White and his students refined social network analysis, and from the late 1990s, online social network research was activated.

2. what did I learn

What I realized while studying social networks was to understand how important the complexity and interdependence of human society play in shaping network structures. In addition, through social network analysis, I realized that it is more important to understand social phenomena in relational contexts rather than individual actors or single groups. This shows that by analyzing the structure and patterns of the network, we can identify influential entities and identify the nature of social interactions. In addition, we recognized that social network theory and methodology can be usefully applied across social sciences. Finally, we realized that these studies provide new insights into modern sociology and various fields by exploring social problems from a network perspective.

How should we consider critical perspectives on the role of human interactions and relationships in understanding modern social structures through social network analysis?
