 1) Summary

A government is generally defined as a system or group of people that govern a country or community. Most governments consist of legislative, executive, and judicial branches, which are the bodies that enforce and make decisions on policies. A government has a constitution of sorts that reflects governance principles and philosophy.

 There are various systems of government, such as republicanism, totalitarianism, and authoritarianism, and these forms of government often gain political power in ways such as election competition or hereditary succession.

Governments are primarily defined as social control systems in which legislative and law enforcement powers are granted to certain groups of countries. However, understanding of governments' definitions and roles can vary by culture or historical context. The meanings of governments in many languages can also differ slightly.

Plato's various forms and systems of government, including types of government, modern political systems, democracy, republic, federalism, provide theoretical approaches to the decentralization of power and ways of exercising it, and help understand various political systems in the real world.


2) Something interesting or new that I learned

It was interesting to know that there are only two national governments that do not define themselves as democracies. It is ironic that well-known non-democratic countries (such as China, North Korea, Vietnam, and Russia) also represent themselves as democracies. Most governments are marked in green, but nearly half of them are marked as "election democracy" in global free surveys underneath them. Democracy is not necessarily the perfect form of government, but it can be seen that it is the best way for now.


3) Questions & Discussions

I'd like to ask your thoughts on the two-party system and the multi-party system. Currently, Korea is a multi-party system, but only two major parties are valid. In the case of the United States, it is completely two-party. (As learned in social studies), the two-party system can implement policies stably, but other minority opinions may not be expressed, and in a multi-party system, minority opinions may be expressed in policies, but political instability may arise. Which one do you think can make a better country?
