W8.1 April 22 (Mon) Assignment - Lee Sihoon

 1. summarize

Politics encompasses the process through which groups make social and economic decisions, extending beyond just government to include interactions in various institutions. It involves power dynamics, authority, and sometimes violence. Different forms of government include monarchy, democracy, totalitarianism, oligarchy, communist states, and theocracy. Each form carries distinct characteristics and implications for governance and society. In the United States, political parties seek power through electoral campaigns with candidates nominated by parties or running independently. The two major parties—Democrats and Republicans—dominate national attention. In Sweden's multi-party system, no single party gains power alone; coalition governments must promote diverse representation while preventing one-party dominance. Recent research in the US highlights a growing ideological divide between conservatives & progressives alongside population shifts due to migration leading to population segregation based on ideology Trust in information sources has shifted toward immediate family & local newspapers while trust in politicians & national media has declined Social networks& corporations capitalize on this shift for targeted advertising—the ideological divide can lead to complications for democratic governments.

2. interesting point

Is authority and power in politics earned? Power and authority are essential for politics. Politics is the decisions that move society, so authority and power are necessary to make it work. But what is the relationship between authority and power? Do we have authority and power because we can do politics, or do we have authority and power because we have done politics? I found these questions interesting as I read the document.

3. question

Do we have authority and power because we can do politics, or do we have authority and power because we have done politics?
