1. Summary
I read a resource that explains how society and political science are related. Politics is the process by which people make socioeconomic decisions, and while the term commonly applies to actions within civil governments, politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including businesses, academics, and religious organizations. It consists of social relations involving authority or power, regulation of political units, and methods and tactics used to establish and apply social policy.
2. What I learned
Political power is a type of power in society that allows a group to manage the distribution of public resources, including labor and wealth, and is not limited to the head of state. However, I believe that power is the ability to influence the behavior of others, with or without resistance. In government, authority is used in the same sense as the term power, but the meaning is different. Authority refers to claims about the legitimacy, justification, and right to exercise power. In most modern nation-states, governments have authority. The fact that they have authority grants them the right to use it to force citizens to do what the government deems appropriate.
3. Question
The same authority that the government has, it has the right to impose on its citizens the work of the government, but it shouldn't use violence. We see a paradoxical contradiction here.
Do you think the government can have authority even though it does not have the right to use violence? And do you think the government gains authority from the right to use violence? Would you obey the law if these things did not affect your actions?
I believe that the government can have authority because authority is not determined by the use of violence. However, I do not think that authority is derived from the right of the government to use violence. Since the law is a prerequisite for running a country, it will be obedient, but since the law was also enacted by humans, I think errors are possible, and resistance such as civil disobedience may occur.
