1. Summary

It is understood that culture is a complex and dynamic phenomenon and affects various aspects of human life and society.

Nature vs. parenting: Culture refers to the social aspect (nurturing) of the human being, which contrasts with our biological nature (nature) and is learned and shaped by the environment.

Elements of culture: According to theory, culture includes a wide range of aspects, including stories, beliefs, media, ideas, art, religious practice, fashion, rituals, expertise and common sense.

Norms, values, beliefs, and symbols: Culture also includes behavioral expectations (norms), values that are valued, an understanding of the world (beliefs), and expressive symbols (representatives of social norms, values, and beliefs).

Differentiation and acquired behavior: Culture represents differences from other groups or societies and includes acquired or learned behaviors.

The dynamic nature of culture: Culture is uneven or static within society. Relatively stable, but can change in the field.

The Role of Language: Several social theorists emphasize the importance of language in shaping culture. Language is dynamic and influences the stability or change of cultural norms, values, and beliefs in the course of continuous negotiation.

2.Interesting Point


It is a very interesting view that language plays an important role in the shaping of culture. The dynamic and continuous use of language affects the stability or change of cultural norms and values.

    I think mass media, including television, film, social media, and the internet, shape cultural perceptions, values, and behaviors by disseminating information and shaping public discourse. and

    There are a wide variety of factors that influence cultural change. There are international exchanges that have an impact in direct contact, and there are technological innovations, economic development, and environmental changes that can have an indirect impact. These days in the 21st century, there are many cases that indirectly affect various cultures because they can be easily accessed through the media. These elements can work in combination with each other to promote or hinder cultural change.

This blog is a digital forum where students from Spring 2024 class in Invitation to Sociology at the Hanyang University in Korea will discuss their weekly readings and activities.
