1. Summary

Today's class deals with the comparison between sociology and economics, another discipline.

After reading this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_sociology) , I learned about economic sociology). Economic sociology is a study of the social causes and effects of economic phenomena, emphasizing the role of economic structures and institutions that affect society and exploring the impact of society on economic structures and institutions. This is one of the differences from economics, and economic sociology focuses on social meaning or social interactions that promote or interfere.

Economic sociology overlaps with economics, but there are attempts to redefine economic problems using sociological terms and approaches. Therefore, there is a difference in economic sociology that adds an economic approach to the analysis of social situations rather than a commonly used part of the economy.

Through this comparison, it was possible to increase understanding of the approaches and goals of economic sociology and economics. It is expected that by viewing and understanding economic phenomena in a social context, a deeper understanding of the interaction between society and economy can be obtained.

Lastly, economic sociology and socioeconomics are different items. Socioeconomics deals with analytical, political, and moral problems that arise at the intersection of economy and society from a wide range of interdisciplinary perspectives, from sociology to political economy, moral philosophy, institutional economics, and history. The items that are mainly dealt with vary depending on what comes in front.

2. interesting points

When I heard the term economic sociology, the first thing that came to mind was economics. I thought economics and sociology were similar in many ways, but after reading the leading data, I realized that there was very little overlap with economics. I learned that economics mainly focuses on mathematical analysis and utility maximization, while economic sociology begins with solving abstract models that economics is missing.

Through this realization, I was able to understand that economic sociology takes a different approach from economics. Economic sociology analyzes and interprets economic phenomena by taking into account the social context, human behavior, and cultural influences, rather than simply viewing them as mathematical models. This indicates that economics primarily focuses on economic benefits and efficiency, while economic sociology includes consideration of social impact and justice.

Through this comparison, I was able to understand the nature and goals of economic sociology more clearly, and I realized the importance of looking at economic phenomena from a more comprehensive and diverse perspective. I have learned that economic sociology is an important discipline that can contribute to social development by exploring and understanding various aspects of society by combining social problems and economic factors. Based on this understanding, I would like to pursue a better understanding of future learning and society.

3. discussion

It would be good to freely discuss what sociology, economics, and socioeconomics mean without reading this document.

It is expected that many students will understand sociology as an item that deals with modern society. Sociology is the study of social phenomena by studying interactions, cultures, institutions, and group behaviors among members of society. It deals with various aspects of modern society and seeks solutions to social problems.

Meanwhile, economics is the study of understanding economic phenomena, such as resource allocation, consumption, and production and sales, using mathematical analysis. Economics focuses on the behavior of individuals or companies, and aims to maximize efficiency and profits.

Socioeconomics is a discipline that combines the two, combining the approaches and concepts of sociology and economics to consider social problems and economic factors together. Socioeconomics values social justice, equality, and fairness in resource allocation, and views and analyzes social phenomena in an economic context.

Through these discussions, you will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics and goals of each discipline. An understanding of how they interact with each other and deal with the complexity of the real world will help us find better solutions to social problems. What is expected is that students will be surprised to discover these interrelationships and realize that they need a comprehensive approach to human life.

Comments

  1. While economics mainly focuses on economic benefits and efficiency, I agree that economic sociology includes considerations for social impact and justice. It is interesting and important that economic sociology is a study that studies various phenomena at the intersection of economy and society. I am particularly interested in the social consequences of economic exchange and the resulting social implications in modern economic sociology. The positive direction of economic exchange can form a network of social interactions and relationships and form a sense of social solidarity. On the other hand, the negative direction of economic exchange can increase social inequality as wealth and power are concentrated in certain groups. Here, we have drawn up a point of contention. How should economic sociology consider the relationship between structural factors and personal responsibility when these problems arise? Through these questions, we will be able to explore the diversity and complexity of the subjects covered by economic sociology.
